KC to be Recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award
H.W. Casey, singer/songwriter best known as KC of KC and the Sunshine Band, will be honored with the prestigious Outstanding Achievement Award from the Autozone Liberty Bowl. KC and the Sunshine Band are also performing at the Liberty Bowl half- time show on Saturday, December 31
This award is a time-honored tradition that dates back to the days of the founding of the Liberty Bowl and when Danny Thomas founded St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Danny always invited his friends from the entertainment industry to visit the hospital.
The award is the Liberty Bowl’s highest honor and presented annually to an individual or group who has exhibited excellence in the entertainment industry and has been supportive of charitable and philanthropic institutions. Past recipients of this award include Danny Thomas, Elvis Presley, B.B. King, Little Richard, Lou Rawls, Three Dog Night, The Beach Boys and last year’s honoree, The O’Jays.
“I am truly honored to accept this award” says KC. “My life’s work has been dedicated to providing enjoyment and after experiencing what the Doctors, Nurses and staff do every day at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and their life’s work…..I am humbled." KC was joined by Maria DeCrescenzo, vocalist for KC and The Sunshne Band on his November 18th visit to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital..
KC & The Sunshine Band first danced into the music scene over 35 years ago. Harry Wayne Casey – KC for short – developed a unique fusion of R&B and funk, with a hint of a Latin percussion groove, giving us an impressive string of hits like GET DOWN TONIGHT, THAT’S THE WAY (I LIKE IT) and SHAKE YOUR BOOTY. With sales of over 100 million records, nine Grammy nominations, three Grammy Awards and an American Music Award, KC and The Sunshine Band was one of the most progressive bands of the 70’s and is credited with changing the sound of modern pop music!
In addition to his dedication in supporting philanthropic causes, KC & The Sunshine Band play over 100 live shows annually, playing dates regularly throughout Europe, Australia and South America and he has no intention of stopping. KC’s songs have stood the test of time and you can ask any one of the thousands of fans who spend the entire concert on their feet, dancing and shaking their booty.
